1979 Bronco

Postby tennbronco on Wed May 02, 2007 9:43 pm

well I started with a basic 1979 Ford Bronco. It has a 9 inch rear and dana 44 front axle. 351 modified, c6 tranny, and a np205 transfer case. I stripped it down to the basics with the help of shawn and discarded the tailgate, and top. we gave it a 4 inch superflex suspension lift in the front and did a custom shackle flip in the rear to get the lift and the back. I have also welded up the floor boards. The truck now sits on a set of 38.5x16x15 super swamper tsl's. when I get more done I will update.

well it's been a long time since I posted an update on the SMURF. The front has been totaled then custom rebuild was done on it. It has been narrowed in the front and had a 8" I beam welded to the frame for a front bumper. Custom tube work done for the radiator support and back to the cab. I also used some old galvanized sheet metal I had layin around to make inner fenders. The tires had gotten pretty worn out so I decided to do some custom grooving on the TSL'S and they grip and bite into the terrain alot better than I would have ever expected. I will see if I can get Shawn who has been helpin me and documenting most of this build to post some pics for me. Thanks to Gubni and Chaser for all there help on my rig.

Hood was vented with a shotgun, and the flag is on the inner fenders.

Lil update.... For the last 2 years I have been havin problems with this truck stayin running, You could wheel it for about 30 minutes then it would spit sputter and die out. About an hour later it would fire up and you could drive it for about 15 to 20 minutes then it would die again. Yesterday I was tryin to drain some fuel out of it ( it has an electric pump on a toggle switch ) It quit pumpin fuel on me and the pump started soundin like it was straining. I went to the tank to listen but couldn't hear much so I tryed to take the gas cap off, Well it wouldn't come off so I got a good grip on it and twisted. When I broke the seal it had so much vacum to it that it sucked in about a 2inch by 4inch section of snow that was in the filler neck hole by the door into the tank !

Judging by the new events from yesterday I am hopin that my problem all along has been the fact that the vent on my gas tank has not been workin and has been cause a vacum problem.

Gonna test it out here as soon as I can. Wish me luck.

Well testing is done for now untill it can get to a real trail other than the back yard. All is well so far and other than a bad rear main seal leak I think it should be trail ready now. Here are some pics taken today after really puttin it through thr ringer and testin er out.
